Vaccine Passports: DID’s Killer App?

Could digital vaccination passports be DID’s “killer app”?

That’s the question Korean business daily Aju Gyeongje asks, pointing to a recent ITU/WHO workshop that discussed issues related to vaccine certification.

According to a Korean who took part in the workshop, participants agreed there was a need to standardize DID-based digital vaccination certificates.

An official from the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA) showed off some of Korea’s mobile vaccination certification services, while the head of the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA)’s blockchain promotion team presented his agency’s plans to standardize vaccination certification.

It’s a long article, but the main takeaway for ICONists is that the KISA official apparently introduced his organization’s project with local DID alliances to develop a digital vaccination certification platform. Do we need to mention again who is reportedly involved in that?

As we reported earlier, there are very real global opportunities for Korean blockchain companies, particularly ones involved in DID.

And if COVID-19 vaccination becomes the application that brings DID into widespread adoption, this could be very good for leading Korean DID companies. Companies like ICONLOOP.
