ICONLOOP announced Wednesday that its MyID service ZZEUNG has launched a COVID-19 vaccination certification service.

With this service, you can safely save and manage your vaccination status — verified by the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA), Korea’s equivalent of the CDC — on your mobile device.

Thanks to DID technology, you needn’t store sensitive private information on business servers.

ZZEUNG can now display on its home screen how many times you’ve been vaccinated, which vaccine you received, when you received your shots and whether 14 days have passed since your last shot.

The COVID-19 vaccination service also works with ZZEUNG-based Jeju Safety Code, the contact tracing service of choice of Jeju Island, South Korea’s most popular tourist destination.

You can download ZZEUNG from either Google Play Store or App Store. The ICON Foundation was kind enough last year to post a how-to for ZZEUNG, which issues its credentials via ICON’s public network.

Do you recall that we shared in July unconfirmed local news reports that ICONLOOP was part of a consortium participating in a trial project by the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA) to create blockchain-powered vaccine passports using DID?

Well, ICONLOOP’s press release on Wednesday confirmed those reports.

The new COVID-19 vaccination certificate service couldn’t come at a better time. As ICONLOOP Communication Team Lead Minhwan Kim notes on Twitter, Korea is transitioning to a “With COVID” posture, mandating people to prove their vaccination status to enter multi-user facilities such as entertainment spaces and gyms.
