There were conversations and ICON Sours aplenty at an official networking event cohosted by ICON, global crypto finance company Circle and the Deconomy conference in the ICON Lounge in Seoul’s Euljiro neighborhood Wednesday night.

Recipe for an ICON Sour

If you’re mixing drinks at your wet bar at home, here’s how to make your very own ICON Sour:

  • Pour one shot of gin over ice, very carefully.
  • Add in a splash tonic — as much (or as little) as you want.
  • To get that, uh, iconic teal blue, dribble just a dash of blue curaçao over the top.
  • Garnish with a lemon slice and stir.

A Top-Rate Crowd

Anyhow, for ICON, it was all hands on deck. Local Foundation members such as JH Kim and Henry Lee were in the crowd, of course. So were Min Kim and Ricky Dodds from the San Francisco office, Daeki Lee and Scott Smiley from ICX Station’s San Francisco launchpad and John Minkoo Kim from Debloc Japan. They were joined by over 100 people, including officials from Deconomy and Circle, blockchain professionals and crypto aficionados from all over the world.

As the evening focused on schmoozing, there was little in the way of set-piece events. Daeki Lee, however, gave a short, 10-minute introduction of ICON. He conducted a lucky-draw, too. Benedicte Nolens, Head of Regulatory Affairs at Circle, introduced her project and some members of her team as well.

The Iconist managed to sneak in a hidden camera and record the presentations. The speeches are pretty standard fare, but if you want to watch them for yourself, we have uploaded videos for both Daeki’s and Benedicte’s speeches on Youtube. Daeki’s, in particular, gives a good ICON overview explanation that might be of interest to our readers.

The crowd seemed to enjoy itself. “We’re really big fans of the space here,” says Stephen Peterkins of Saito Network. “It’s quite a large turnout of different people here. There are a couple of people I’ve seen around in other crypto projects so I think it’s become a part of the circuit – it’s a have-to-do location.”

ICON Foundation member Min Kim was having a good time, too. “I’m very, very excited about tonight’s event,” he says. “But more than that, I’m more excited about the idea of having this new office, this new space for the blockchain community.”

He stresses that Tuesday’s event was only the beginning. “We want to have more projects from outside Korea come in and use this space,” he says. “We want to make it fully available for the blockchain community to reach out to us, and if they want to hold meetups and educate the Koreans here and our developers, then we’re all for it. We’re not trying to make money from it. It’s our gift to build a more robust community here in Korea.”
